What do yoga pants, the most comfortable pants many of us will ever wear, reveal about the South Asian practice of yoga?

Drawing on questions explored in Shameem Black's Flexible India: Yoga's Cultural and Political Tensions (Columbia University Press, forthcoming 2023), this hands-on workshop explores the different gendered and cultural meanings of the yoga pant. Through a mix of conversation, creative writing, and textile upcycling, you will take a pair of yoga pants and transform them into something new. In the process, you'll have the opportunity to think about yoga's cultural and social significance in India and beyond.
