Discover the music, games, and flavours of Indonesia, with the gamelan at the heart of the show.

As part of 2026 Immersia, the ANU School of Culture, History & Language is proud to partner with the Australian National University Indonesian Students Association (ANUISA), the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA) and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to bring the sounds and traditions of Indonesia to campus.

At the heart of this celebration is a hands-on Indonesian gamelan workshop led by Gamelan Sedulur Monco. The workshop begins with a live performance of traditional Javanese gamelan music before inviting participants to try the instruments themselves and experience one of Indonesia's most treasured performing arts traditions firsthand. Whether you are a musician or simply curious, this is a rare opportunity to explore the unique sounds, rhythms and cultural significance of the gamelan.

Beyond the workshop, enjoy vibrant traditional dance performances by ANU students, sample a selection of authentic Indonesian cuisine, and join in traditional games. Challenge your friends to a game of Congklak, test your coordination in the classic pencil-in-a-bottle race, or work together in the lively Estafet Sarung relay.

More than a cultural showcase, this event is an opportunity to connect with fellow students and the wider Canberra community, celebrate multiculturalism, and experience the warmth and diversity of Indonesia through music, food, games and shared traditions.

Everyone is welcome — come and experience a taste of Indonesia, Immersia style.
